It is now time for the finals of KK & DP. Russia against Qatar and Russia against the Czech Republic is on the menu for this Saturday.
Anastasiia Gureva from Russia, seeded #1, had no problem dismissing Swiss Celine Naef. Celine was not allowed by Gureva to find a good rhythm, Gureva was too strong today with a 6-1, 6-1 confident win.
A much tighter match was played between Clervie Ngounoue (USA) and Brenda Fruhvirtova (Czech Republic). For almost the first time in this tournament Clervie got off to a good start, but the longer that match went on, the more frustrated she became. This is understandable; it feels like Brenda never misses, always composed and always getting the ball back in-between the lines. We have a confident Brenda moving into the final round of this year’s Drottningens Pris.
Entertaining matches on the boys’ side, full of drama and lots of roaring and screaming all around. Rashed Nawaf from Qatar met Aleksa Pisaric from Serbia; Nawaf won comfortably 6-2, 6-2.
The other semifinal went all the way. A superb match tiebreak decided it between Russian Yaroslav Demin and Romanian Mihai Alexandru Coman; the crowd loved this match that in the end ended in favour of Demin 6-3. 5-7, 7-6(6).
– Two real top-quality finals will wrap up this great week of tennis. Fruhvirtova is already a star here as she is two years younger than most of her opponents, she will be put to the test tomorrow against a fierce Gureva. Demin and Nawaf are guaranteed to entertain, and we look forward even to some trick shots from Nawaf, comments Joe Beaton, Tournament Director.
The singles are both on at 12.00 in the Royal Tennis Hall of Stockholm, followed by the doubles finals. In the doubles finals, we have K. Kozakova/C. Naef (SUI) vs. A. Gureva/H. Tsitavets, from Russia and Belarus, on the girl’s side and L. Cohen Bacrie/G. Debru (FRA) vs. the Estonian and Finnish O. Byskata/O. Ojakaar on the boys.
