In the final, we have last year’s winner Brenda Fruhvirtova from the Czech Republic and Daria Shadchneva from Russia.

Daria (picture) played her semi-final against Hanna Read from the UK. Hanna has looked very sound this week, with her explosive shots, she has been a fierce opponent. In today’s meeting with Daria Shadchneva, she did not succeed in finding her previous level. Daria, who plays smart and solid tennis, took advantage of the British girls’ mistakes. The first set got away quickly, in favour of the Russian 6-3. In the second set, Hanna hit significantly more winners but also considerably more mistakes, making life too easy for Daria Shadchneva, 6-3, 6-1.

Pre-tipped favourite Brenda Fruhvirtova’s match against top-seeded Brit Martin offered, as predicted, great tennis. From the first ball, both girls came out strong. Brenda stepped up a gear with her massive baseline game and never let Brit into the match. Brenda once again showed an intense focus on the job at hand and did not let her opponent into the match. Despite the final score being 6-0, 6-1, there was some impressive tennis and great entertainment all round.
